Last week Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack announced USDA will start to require reporting of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus and Swine Delta Coronavirus in order to slow the spread of the disease across the country.

Vilsack says this new effort is intended to enhance biosecurity and health in the U.S. swine herd while maintaining movement of pigs.

PEDv does not pose a risk to humans. It only affects pigs and is not a food safety concern.

On top of mandatory reporting of PEDv, USDA will also begin tracking movement of pigs, vehicles and other equipment leaving affected locations.
