A Des Moines teen accused in the brutal carjacking of a man has been found guilty.

A Polk County jury found 17-year-old Terrence Cheeks guilty of two counts of first degree robbery Thursday.

Cheeks and two friends were charged in the beating that caused permanent brain damage to Mike Wasike. Wasike is being cared for a rehab facility in Oklahoma.

Wasike’s wife, Joan Namachemo, says Cheeks showed little remorse but she felt relief once the verdict was read.

“It was hard and it was kind of exciting and relieving knowing that after all this someone is going to be held responsible for what they did,” Joan said.

Cheeks will be sentenced on June 13th. He faces up to 50 years in prison.

Leshaun Murray already took a plea deal in the case. Kenneth Barry is expected to do that same.
