A task force recomended cancelling the celebration.

The first of nine meetings on the fate of VEISHEA following violence that put one ISU student in the hospital earlier this month was held Thursday.

The 20-member task force was formed after violence broke out during the week of the annual Iowa State celebration.

At the meeting, the group decided to hold a series of forums to weigh opinions and suggestions on the future of the event.

“Everyone on the task force will have to put any emotional ties or preconceived ideas aside,” Dr. Thomas Hill explained.

The first forum is Friday at 2 p.m. in the Great Hall at Memorial Union.

The task force will present its suggestions to the administration on June 30th.
