Today is Arbor Day and Ames is getting new trees to celebrate.
The city and Ames Trees Forever teamed up to plant three new trees at Brookside Park.
Those involved know there are challenges ahead with the invasion of the emerald ash borer. But everyone is dedicated to keeping Ames green.
“They keep dying out just like the rest of us,” Bill LaGrange joked. “You can never have too many trees because they provide energy and part of the beauty of Ames is the trees.”
There’s another tree planting on Saturday for the Ames sesquicentennial. Fittingly, 150 trees will be planted in area parks and green spaces.
