The Drake Relays are heating up this weekend and there is still plenty of time for you to get involved.
Drake Relays Director Brian Brown is pumped for the weekend. He says Friday events are growing, including three events in the Hy-Vee Cup.
“It’s going to be epic. It’s going to be a great time for our fans to experience just some amazing events,” says Brown
He says weekend events are jam-packed with talent, including the men’s 400 meters, where the four top-ranked athletes will be racing on the Blue Oval.
Everyone has a chance to get involved, as a fan, volunteer, and even a participant. The Hy-Vee road races are being held Sunday. That includes a 5k, 10k and half marathon.
Local event organizer Michael Zimmerman says the courses are challenging, but runners won’t go at it alone.
“Both the 10k course and half marathon run though what we call Bulldog Hill. It’s the hill on 28th Street from Ingersoll to under 235 all the way to University. We are expecting that to be a hot spot for spectators and fans to come out,” says Zimmerman. “Bulldog Hill is going to have pacers to help runners up and down the hill. It’s going to have the Isiserettes, the local drum corps. And we are going to have unique features on that hill.”
If you want to run the Hy-Vee road races, registration is open through Saturday. You can register here or at the expo Friday night and Saturday at the Iowa Events Center.
