Today and through the weekend track and field events will heat up at Drake University’s Blue Oval.

After a couple of rainy days, the sun was shining on the Drake Relays.

When weather is like this records go down.

Central Iowa athletes dominated the sprints. One in particular, Mary Young, smashed the 100m hurdle record with 14.3 seconds.

Next year Young will be a Drake Bulldog and was happy to impress her future coaches.

“It doesn’t hurt they got to see that too. I’m really proud of myself and I’m getting closer to hitting my goal time so it’s really satisfying today,” the Urbandale senior said.
