One person died in a house fire this weekend in eastern Iowa.

The fire started around 2:45 Sunday morning in Marion. Family members say three people, a mother and two small children, were able to get out of the house safely. The father was not able make it out.

Investigators found the victim dead in the room where they believe the fire started. Marion fire officials say smoke detectors saved the lives of the other three family members.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
