AGRIBUSINESS: No Trade Deal In Japan

President Obama left Japan on Friday with gaps still existing as part of the ongoing negotiations regarding the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP).

The administration says they made progress in getting a better idea of what a package might look like. TPP negotiators are scheduled to meet again in mid-May.

In January, Congress introduced Congressional Trade Priorities Act of 2014, which is a renewal of Trade Promotional Authority (TPA). This gives the executive branch the power to broker deals Congress can pass or reject but not amend. Authors of TPA call it vital in order to conclude international trade deals like TPP.
