Tuesday night you can see what Central Campus in Des Moines has to offer beyond the four walls of a classroom.
Central Campus and Central Academy are holding an open house to showcase the school. The event includes food vendors, student projects, a scavenger hunt, and more.
Des Moines schools encourage parents and parents interested in enrolling their kids at the school to take a tour. Instructors and administrators will be on hand to answer questions.
Students from all over central Iowa can attend Central Campus. The school goes beyond the core curriculum. For example, someone donated a boat to the school and students are rebuilding its motor.
Instructors say it’s the specialized projects that keep kids engaged.
“But you can tell their interest is a little higher because they’ve got more ownership. They chose it themselves, they invest a little more, and our attendance rates are really high. Because they are motivated to be here because they know they are going to get something that is tangible and they can use it after high school,” says Kirk Johnson, Broadcasting and Film instructor.
Tuesday night’s event begins at 5:00 p.m. and runs until 8:00 p.m. Central Campus is located at 1800 Grand Avenue.
The Downtown School will also be open for tours.
