The crabapple trees at Water Works Park in Des Moines are flowering.

There are about 1,200 trees in the collection, making it one of the world’s largest collections of crabapples.

The blooms are expected to last until the third weekend of May, unless strong winds and rain com along to wreak havoc on the petals.
