A man being sentenced for a simple misdemeanor in Des Moines on Thursday will soon be facing more serious charges after running from the courthouse.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says the man was read his sentence but before he could be placed in custody he ran from the building.

Deputies chased after him but couldn’t find him.

The suspect’s name isn’t being released. A warrant will be issued for his arrest.

What an idiot! A simple misdemeanor is a max of one year in jail and some fines at the worse, community service and fines usually, or a slap on the wrist with fines for first offense. He just went from a simple misdemeanor and probably none or a day or two jail time to felony escape. Since he is now an escaped felon, weapons will be at the ready when he is found if he wants to fight.
