A southern Iowa police officer had a lucky escape during a supposed routine traffic stop.
Centerville police officer Jeremy Veach pulled Candice Duffey over at about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday when a tree inexplicably fell on the car hitting Veach.
His squad car dashcam captured the moment.
Veach says he heard a couple of cracks and the next thing he knew he was lying on the ground calling for help.
“What made it such a freak deal was it was a nice evening, there was hardly any breeze, it was toward the bottom of a hill by our city park,” Officer Veach said. “Upon looking at it afterwards it was just a very rotten area at the base of the tree.”
Duffey, who was pulled over for not having her headlights on, was not issued a citation.
Veach sustained some injuries bit is expected to return to duty soon. The occupants in the car were unharmed.
