Iowa flags will fly at half-staff Friday in honor of police officers who gave their lives in the line of duty.

Four officers’ names will be added to the Peace Officer Memorial this year including Rockwell City police officer Jamie Buenting. He was shot and killed while serving a warrant in September.

The three other officers died in 1868, 1902 and 1911.

Friday morning is the annual Peace Officer Memorial ceremony. It starts at 10:00 at the Oran Pape State Office Building in Des Moines.

Gov. Terry Branstad requested that all flags be lowered from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
