MARIJUANA SEIZED: Couple Charged With Child Endangerment
Child endangerment charges are pending for a Marshalltown couple after a large amount of marijuana was found inside their home.
Shandy Peterson and Michael McDowell were arrested Saturday night at their home at 205 S. 5th Street. Their two-year-old child was sleeping inside the home and in close proximity to 8.5 ounces of marijuana found by police.
Officers dispatched on a report of a loud party were first alerted after smelling a strong odor of cannabis outside the home, the Times Republican reports. They then saw McDowell allegedly trying to destroy evidence.
Police entered the house and seized the marijuana with a street value of $1,600 along with paraphernalia and $2,000 in cash.
Peterson and McDowell both face several charges including possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and child endangerment.
The couple was taken to the Marshall County Jail. The child was removed by the Department of Human Services.
