Roosevelt has a proud tradition of tennis champions and the Roughriders want to add more.

Roosevelt junior Mary Hill has been playing tennis half of her life.

“It definitely takes a lot of commitment,” Hill said having started at age seven.

Mary Hill wins a lot. In fact she's yet to lose this year, undefeated.

"Mary has a lot of confidence, very relaxed on the court. Lots of power in her game too," Coach Michael Shaw commented.

The goal for a lot of high school players is the state tournament. For a select few, maybe even a state title. Mary has already accomplished the first placing 5th at state as a freshman. Last year though, as a sophomore, state wasn't even a possibility.

"Two weeks before the season started I fell backwards and I broke my wrist, out for 3 months," Hall said.

Her sophomore season was over before it even started.

But a new year, back to full health and the same goals.

"I’m setting my goals high. First or second is an ideal goal," Hall said.

"There’s no reason why she can't," her coach added.
