An Iowa-native has died while serving in Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense says 33-year-old Deric Rasmussen died in a non-combat incident on Sunday. He was a Chief Warrant Officer based out of Fort Hood, Texas.
He deployed to Afghanistan in January.
The Des Moines Register says Rasmussen grew up in Storm Lake and attended Iowa State University for a year then joined the military in 2003.
He was married, with three kids all under the age of four.
Department of Defense officials have not released any details about how Rasmussen may have died.
