Young patients at Mercy Medical Center got a special treat Thursday morning when NASCAR drivers made a pit stop at their rooms.
The racers got to hang out with the children of all ages and sign posters.
They are in town for the NASCAR Nationwide Series at the Iowa Speedway this weekend.
One of the drivers said it was their first time volunteering at a hospital.
“It’s just so awesome to make these kids day. I mean they are going through a lot of stuff and it’s cool to put a smile on their face and let them forget at that split second and they got to meet somebody cool for that day,” driver Kenzie Ruston said.
Kenzie races on Saturday. She says this will be her fourth time on the Newton track.
