The Riverwalk along the Des Moines River will soon have something it's been missing - a playground.

The playground will be on the west side of the Des Moines River, next to the Center Street Bridge.

On May 5th the Des Moines City Council approved construction of the Rotary Riverwalk Park and today Rotary club members celebrated breaking ground.

Nine local rotary clubs are financing the $500,000 park. It will have a fishing theme, featuring an 80 foot-long fishing pole arching towards the river with a 12 foot-wide bobber at the end.

“It`s a void that we`re filling and so this will be a great draw for families and children to come downtown and enjoy the beauty of the river,” the project chair John Bouslog said.

Construction crews plan on starting sometime this month. They hope to have the project complete by fall.
