You may soon hear more art in Des Moines.

Several metro groups are teaming up to promote the “City Sounds” project.

They want to place donated pianos in various places throughout the city. It’s similar to a program already producing beautiful music in Iowa City.

“We’ve seen how people embraced visual art like the sculpture park and with a lot of the public art around the city. We thought that this would be a nice sister to that which is public music and having it available anytime someone wants to play,” Kathryn Dickel said.

Organizers presented their plan to the Des Moines City Council. It has been referred to the city manager.

The plan is to do a test-run this summer.
