Gov. Terry Branstad has announced who he wants to run the Iowa Department of Administrative Services and the Iowa Department of Public Health.
Branstad has appointed Janet Phipps Burkhead to take over as director of the DAS. She has been acting as interim director since April 8th, when the governor fired Mike Carroll for lying about secret settlements the department reached with outgoing state employees.
Gerd Clabaugh has been named as director of the IDPH after serving as interim director since January, when Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks resigned. She is running for Congress in Iowa’s 2nd District.
“I am pleased today to name two individuals with high integrity, invaluable experience and a passion for service as directors of two important departments,” said Branstad.
The Iowa Senate must still approve of the appointments.
