CYCLIST TRIBUTE: Ride Of Silence Held

Hundreds of bike riders rolled through the streets of Des Moines in honor of other cyclists.

Metro cyclists took part in the nationwide “Ride of Silence” Wednesday evening.

It’s a memorial ride to honor bicyclists who have been killed or injured in crashes with vehicles and a chance to raise awareness about sharing the road.

Gabrielle Coughlin says every time she rides on Des Moines streets someone puts her life at risk.

“I nearly every time will encounter someone running a stop sign, or going a little too fast or passing me when another car is coming at them,” Coughlin described.

According to Bike Iowa, four Iowa cyclists were killed last year and dozens more were injured.
