The Jasper County Courthouse could be getting a security upgrade.
Sheriff John Halferty is asking the board of supervisors for three more deputies.
He is citing a scary incident in Madison County as a reason the deputies are needed. In March, Cory Daugherty pulled out a handgun in the courtroom after being sentenced. He escaped but was taken into custody a short time later.
The sheriff says the added deputies would help keep the courthouse safe.
The department currently has 13 deputies.
The county would have to foot the bill for the request. The board will discuss the matter next Tuesday.
