Urbandale Police (WHO-HD)

Urbandale police are investigating a recent spike in fraud cases.

According to police, scammers have been calling victims posing as IRS agents.

The fraudsters claim the victims owe money or their banks accounts will be seized. They’re ordered to pay hundreds of dollars by prepaid money cards.

Police also say another scam targets the elderly by claiming to be a family member being held by foreign country law enforcement officials.

If you get a phone call from a caller asking for pre-paid cash cards, hang up and call police.
