Tuesday’s Democratic primary for the Iowa Senate District 17 was close.

At the end of the day’s counting just 13 votes separated Tony Bisignano and Nathan Blake. But the figure has increased slightly.

The Polk County Elections Office met Thursday to count any additional ballots from the race. Five votes went to Bisignano and one went to the other candidate in the race, Ned Chiodo.

The count extends Bisignano’s lead to 18.

A recount hasn’t yet been announced for the south-side seat, which is currently held by Sen. Jack Hatch who is running for Governor.

No Republican candidate has yet filed to run in November’s general election.
