BOONE, Iowa – Some Iowa soldiers are heading overseas for active duty.
Sixty soldiers with C Company, 2nd Battalion, 147th Aviation said goodbye to their family and friends Thursday.
The Boone-based unit will work in the Middle East maintaining Blackhawk helicopters.
This is the third deployment in the last eight years for Jeremy Walburn. His wife said goodbyes get a little bit harder each time but her children are keeping their spirits up.
“I really think it’s really special because I get to see my dad before he goes away,” Allie Walburn said. “I would say to my dad I love him very much.”
The unit is first heading to Fort Hood, Texas for training.
Soldiers will spend one year on active duty.
The unit also served in Iraq in 2006 and Kosovo in 2010.
