Fire Engulfs Minivan on I-235

DES MOINES, Iowa – Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire during rush hour traffic Friday morning.

Channel 13 viewer Gabino Berber shot video as flames engulfed a Dodge caravan on I-235 by the east mixmaster north of Euclid Avenue.

Officials say the call was made out to Delaware Fire Department but they weren’t able to assemble a crew in time. A Des Moines fire engine was then dispatched at 7:55 a.m.

There were no injuries.

Investigators haven’t said what caused the fire.

My husband’s car caught on fire a few years ago. Luckily, he was able to put it out with a glass of water (he was inside of a restaurant when it started, and someone came in and told him). Ever since then, we’ve had a fire extinguisher in each car (and about 25 of them in our house).
