Teen Father Charged With Murder Free On Bond

DES MOINES, Iowa — The teenager father accused of killing his infant son says he’s not guilty in the case.

Seventeen-year-old Drew Weehler-Smith of Des Moines is charged with first degree murder. His four-month-old son Gabriel McFarland died while in Weehler-Smith’s care in April.

Reports show the child died of abusive head trauma.

He is also charged with child endangerment resulting in death.

Weehler-Smith is free on a $80,000 cash bond, which was posted June 3rd.

A jury trial is now set for August 4th at the Polk County Courthouse.
