DES MOINES, Iowa – A new report shows more people are using Des Moines International Airport.

According to data released by the airport, the number of flyers increased 12.7 percent in May compared to last May.

Each airline saw an increase in passengers last month.

Since the beginning of the year, usage is up 5.7 percent.

Airport officials believe the increases are due to new flights to places like Las Vegas, Washington DC and Punta Gorda, Florida.

On Tuesday, a $468 million plan to build a new terminal sometime in 2022 got the go-ahead from airport officials to meet growing ridership demand.
