SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The campaigning isn’t over for Sam Clovis.

Clovis finished second to Joni Ernst in the race for the Republican nomination for Senate. Now Clovis will seek the Republican nomination for state treasurer at Saturday’s Iowa Republican Convention.

Clovis told the Des Moines Register he was encouraged to run by Governor Branstad and Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds.

“Two days ago this probably wasn’t on the docket,” Clovis said. “And then a phone call led to another phone call and people said, ‘This sounds like a great idea,’ and there were conversations between me and the governor and I said I would go ahead and do it.”

Saturday’s state convention will also feature three possible 2016 presidential candidates.

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul and Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum are all scheduled to speak.

Santorum won the Iowa Caucuses in 2012.
