NEWTON, Iowa — A California man accused of impersonating a movie star to gain access to children has entered a not guilty plea.

Thirty-three-year-old David Lavera was originally set to appear in Jasper County court Monday but submitted a written plea instead. He is charged with enticing a minor, carrying weapons, and failure to have a driver’s license.

Police say he lured a 14-year old girl into his car by claiming to be Kiowa Gordon from the “Twilight” movie series.

Lavera also performed stunts during assemblies at two schools in Newton. The district says he signed in using his real name, but was unaware he signed autographs for students claiming to be the “Twilight” actor.

A pre-trial hearing for Lavera is scheduled for July 2nd.
