DES MOINES, Iowa – Two hundred children got the opportunity of a lifetime Wednesday at Principal Park when they played ball with five retired Major League Baseball players.
The players, all from the Des Moines and Omaha area, volunteered their time.
There were five different stations for practicing baseball basics. The kids got to pitch, catch, field the ball and of course, hit it.
“The goal for these kids is to basically come out and have a great time and to learn from these former Major Leaguers ,” Justin Sutton with the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association said. “Not everyone gets this type of opportunity to come and work with Major Baseball League players.
The day ended with an autograph session.
