DES MOINES, Iowa – A new running mate is looking to help gubernatorial candidate Jack Hatch’s cause.
This week Hatch announced Monica Vernon is joining the ticket. She is a member of the Cedar Rapids City Council and was a candidate for Congress in Iowa’s First Congressional District.
Vernon put in about $350,000 of her own money in that campaign. In a taping of The Insiders, she said will also put money into this race but didn’t say how much.
“I think Jack has a great plan, and this was part of our conversations about what are you doing. I feel really good about the kind of finance staff he has put together and the time he is putting in and I tell you, I’ll be right there with him,” Vernon said.
Hatch’s campaign is significantly behind Branstad’s fundraising efforts. At the last count, Branstad had about $4.5-million in the bank, about 15-times more than Hatch.
