Prisoners Moved Because of Damage to Newton Correction Facility

NEWTON, Iowa — Several inmates at the Newton Correctional Facility are being moved around because of significant water damage sustained during Thursday’s storms.

More than 50 offenders were evacuated to alternate locations inside the building. Teams were brought in to help with flood recovery, but officials say the building is structurally sound.

Inmates should be able to return to their specified locations within the next couple of days.

Visits and volunteer activities are suspended until further notice.
