Flash Flooding Blocks Roads, Leaves Cars Stranded

DES MOINES, Iowa – Heavy rain has left much of the metro submerged in water Thursday. Some areas of Iowa saw more than five inches of rain in a just a few hours.

At one point Thursday afternoon, city officials in Clive advised residents to avoid 86th Street between University Boulevard and University Avenue due to street flooding.

Several cars were seen stranded in the flood waters.

Urbandale, Johnson, Grimes and Clive all had reports of flooding in low-lying areas.

Flooding wasn’t the only issue. At one point Thursday, there were nearly 800 customers without power in Des Moines-metro.

Meteorologist Ed Wilson said that more thunderstorms are possible through the early morning hours Friday. Another chance for heavy rain returns on Saturday into Sunday.

Des Moines Fire Department advises drivers to turn around if you encounter submerged roads.

    And the Gazette stated, ‘Palo isn’t worry about the river’!
    They must be living under-neath a rock over there in Cedar Rapids!!
