DES MOINES, Iowa – Authorities say a brother and sister worked together to try to steal genetically modified seed corn from Dupont Pioneer and Monsanto.

US officials announced the arrest and indictment of Mo Yun, 42, Wednesday. She is the sister of Chinese national Mo Hailong who was charged in the case last year.

Prosecutors say the pair and others were trying to steal specialized corn strains worth millions from fields in Iowa and Illinois.

“The FBI’s investigation into Mo Yun should not go unnoticed by those who seek to steal trade secrets and private business information,” Special Agent Thomas Metz said. “Identifying and deterring those focused on stealing trade secrets, property and confidential information or national security information is the number two priority for the FBI second only to terrorism.”
