DES MOINES, Iowa -We know we can get locally grown foods from area grocery stores and farmers markets. One company is making it even more convenient for employees to get their hands on fresh food.
Meredith Corporation started offering a workplace CSA three years ago as part of its wellness program. Employee Health and Financial Wellness Program Director Tim O’Neil says, “Really it’s a great way to promote healthy eating as part of our wellness program, and really provide a convenient way for our employees to get exposed to different types of vegetables.”
More than 50 employees participate. It doesn’t cost the company anything. Employees are able to buy a share of food from two local farms. Each delivers once a week. Courtney Yuskis gets eggs from Raccoon Forks Farm. She says, “I have half a dozen eggs delivered here every week. And, I just run down to the loading dock and pick them up. It’s very easy, very convenient.”
Grinnell Heritage Farm also delivers shares of its certified organic produce. The farm delivers to two Eastern Iowa companies, in addition to Meredith in Des Moines. Whitney Brewer says, “A lot of corporations nowadays are starting to promote wellness initiatives.”
A 20 week summer share from Grinnell Heritage Farm costs $585. The farm also delivers to Gateway Market in Des Moines, Whole Foods in West Des Moines, and Swain Chiropractic in Altoona. Fall shares are still available. The 10 week share starts late August and costs $350. Click here for more information.
