COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – A Pottawattamie County man suffered a severe injury to his hand during Independence Day celebrations Friday.

The Pottawattamie County Sheriff`s Office says the incident happened shortly before 10:30 p.m. in the 13-thousand block of 220th Street in rural Council Bluffs.

Officials say a firework detonated in Cole Mayer’s hand as he tried to light it. Tourniquets were used by bystanders to stop the 30-year-old’s arm from bleeding.

Mayer was taken to an Omaha hospital by air ambulance.

The incident remains under investigation.

I have to HAND it to the guy for was using the big stuff. He maybe should of stuck with Lady FINGERS. The cost of being flown by air ambulance is going to cost him another ARM and a leg. Maybe he’ll be able to THUMB a ride home from the hospital. I can keep going……..
