DES MOINES, Iowa – According to the Army Corps of Engineers, the Saylorville Reservoir crested overnight lower than earlier projected.

The reservoir crested at 877.5 feet, earlier projections put that crest at 883 feet. The predicted crest would have been close to the level where the Army Corps of Engineers would raise the crest gates to keep water from reaching the emergency spillway.

Officials said levels at the reservoir have already started to drop since cresting early Monday.
