GREENE COUNTY, Iowa — A groundbreaking ceremony for Iowa’s newest casino is being held Thursday near Jefferson.

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission voted in June to approve an application for a gaming license from Grow Greene County Gaming Corp.

The casino will be run by Wild Rose Entertainment, which already has casinos in Emmetsburg and Clinton.

The $40 million project includes a casino, 71-room hotel, events center, sports bar, and restaurants. The casino is expected to add 275 full-time jobs.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Highway 30 and Highway 4 in Greene County.

The casino is set to open in late summer of 2015.

The best thing about this is listening to the wannabe hipsters in my home town whining because they think it’s unfair Greene County got a license and they didn;t after even paying government employees to attend a rally and use city police to go thug on a minister simply excercising his 1st Amendment rights in a civil manner (the mayor didn’t want the gambling commision to see all the protesters apparently) But at least they beat the bribery charge, thanks to some connections in the current governors office.
