RINGGOLD COUNTY, Iowa – One man has been arrested after officials say he took his wife hostage in southern Iowa Tuesday night.

The Ringgold County Sheriff’s Office was called to a report of a domestic assault at a home south of Mount Ayr at about 10:30 p.m.

A woman said her husband, Randy Longstreath, 51, was outside trying to get into the house with a shotgun.

He eventually got in and took her hostage.

Ringgold County deputies requested help from Iowa State Patrol’s tactical unit and crisis negotiator.

Before they got there, she was able to escape to a neighbor’s house.

When the tactical team arrived, they tried to talk Longstreath into putting the gun down. He admitted to having several more firearms in the house including high powered rifles.

A negotiator talked to Longstreath for more than three hours before they were able to get him to come out of the home and place the shotgun on the deck.

The tactical team then moved in and took Longstreath into custody without incident.

He was booked into the Ringgold County Jail. Charges are still pending as the investigation continues.
