Iowa State’s VEISHEA Task Force Report Released

Veishea meeting

AMES, Iowa — The VEISHEA task force report has been sent to Iowa State President Steven Leath and it has been released publicly.

Some of the recommendations are changing the name and making sure a new celebration wouldn’t be operated in the same manner as VEISHEA. The task force also suggested spreading out the event into three smaller events and making sure there is more of a police presence on campus during the events. Harsher punishment for those who choose to commit a crime during the celebration were suggested as well.

Leath released a statement saying, “Today, the VEISHEA Task Force delivered its report to my office. I’m grateful for the hard work done by this group of faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members. I’m particularly grateful to Senior Vice President for Student Affairs Tom Hill, who served as chair of the task force.” Leath will make announce his final decision in early August.

“Leath is currently out of state and will receive the report via email.” Which means he will not be able to comment on this matter until he the Iowa State President has time to sugar coat it.
