DES MOINES, Iowa – Authorities are looking for the driver of a stolen car involved in a hit-and-run early Monday morning. No one was hurt, but the crash in the 4800 block of Meredith Drive left a big mess.
The car sheared a power pole, hit a tree and came to a rest right by Mark Kitlinski’s front porch. “They probably were sliding sideways and hit the little tree ten feet from the front steps,” he said.
The car missed his house, but knocked off the gas meter on the front side. Kitlinski and his girlfriend were woken up by a loud noise just before 4 a.m.. By the time they figured out what had happened, there was no sign of the driver.
“They did call Urbandale to verify the residence that this vehicle was registered to and found that the vehicle was stolen out of Urbandale,” says Polk County Lt. Brent Long.
Urbandale police said the car was reported stolen at 5 a.m.
