Johnston Police Issue Warning About Fake Solicitor

JOHNSTON, Iowa — The Johnston Police Department is asking its residents to be wary of who’s knocking at the door.

The department received reports of a subject going door to door Monday in the 9000 block of Long Meadow Drive, trying to fraudulently collect monetary donations for “Charity 4 Change.”

Police have learned that organization, which sent care packages to military members serving overseas, closed in 2013.

Johnston police say you should always ask solicitors to produce their city-issued solicitors permit before donating and don’t ask them into your home.

If a solicitor makes you feel uncomfortable or you have questions about their legitimacy you can call the Johnston Police Department at 278-2345.
