AGRIBUSINESS: Appropriations Bill Goes To Congress, Good For Cattle

The House Interior appropriations bill passed through committee by a vote of 29 to 19 Tuesday.

The bill determines how money is spent for the Department of Interior and Environmental Protection Agency during Fiscal Year 2015. Dustin Van Liew with National Cattlemen’s Beef Association says the bill has important language for livestock producers.
It blocks the listing of Sage Grouse and requires different allotments for ranchers affected by drought or wildfire without extensive a need to complete extensive environmental analysis. The bill also has a permanent extension of a grazing rider while a renewal process gets through the National Environmental Policy Act analysis backlog.
The appropriations bill now waits for a full House and Senate vote.
