Flags Set to be Lowered for WWII Veteran

sgt howardMOULTON, Iowa – Flags will be lowered to half-staff this weekend in honor of an Iowa airman killed in World War Two.

Staff Sergeant Robert Howard was last seen in April of 1945 conducting a bombing mission over Germany.

His flight was shot down. His remains were identified at the crash site in 2012.

This weekend, Staff Sergeant Howard will be laid to rest Saturday in his hometown of Moulton.

A public memorial service is set for 11 a.m. at Sunset View Cemetery north of Moulton. He will receive a ceremony with full military honors.

Governor Branstad ordered flags to be flown at half-staff from 5 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Monday.
