AMES, Iowa — The Ames city council will discuss bike safety in the Campustown area at its Tuesday night meeting.

The council first brought up the issue in May after businesses complained their guests were being hit by cyclists on the sidewalks.

A series of suggestions were made including adding bike lanes and removing parking in some areas. However, businesses are pushing against that idea.

Another idea is to add signs to prohibit bicycles in certain areas, sending them to alternate routes.

The council is expected to decide which ideas will move forward Tuesday night.
