Volunteers Helping with Maytag Park Playground Renovations

NEWTON, Iowa -- Work continues to renovate Maytag Park in Newton. The latest addition is a new playground.

The city council approved the $92,000 project last month. The old equipment was dis-assembled last week.

Wednesday volunteers got to work putting up the new items. When it's complete there will be two large play structures, a climbing wall, and plenty of slides.

“It's been an awful lot of fun. It’s been…we’ve been able to make a difference and help these kids and they’re going to have a great place to play. And I have a five-year-old and a seven-year-old that are going to be out here on Monday morning,” says volunteer Dana Simbro.

The city is looking for 50 volunteers to help on Saturday.
