kristina fettersDES MOINES, Iowa – An Iowa woman convicted of killing a relative at a young age and recently released from prison has died.

Kristina Fetters was originally sentenced to life without parole for the murder of her great aunt in 1995. She was 15 at the time of conviction.

Fetters later developed breast cancer.

A court changed her sentence to life with parole and in December the Iowa Parole Board approved her early release to hospice care.

A friend released a statement:

“We want to thank you all for all of your love and support for Krissy and for our family during this time. You all will never know just how much that it has meant to all of us. Kristina Joy is finally able to feel peace, free of emotional and physical pain.”

She was 34.
