HAZMAT Crews Respond to Boone Chemical Leak

BOONE, Iowa – A Des Moines HAZMAT team was dispatched to Boone late Tuesday night after an anhydrous ammonia leak.

Crews had to shut off the flow to a 1,500 gallon tank at the West Central Co-op after it began leaking from a hose line, officials said.

The tank was inspected and the area was checked for harmful chemicals.

Officials haven’t said what caused the leak.

Boone County Emergency Management also coordinated the response.
