DES MOINES, Iowa — Twelve-hundred Des Moines students already have their school supplies and a local church made sure they didn’t have to spend a dime.
“It makes all the difference, it makes all the difference and you can tell that by the smiles and the relieved expressions on the faces of the parents and the smiles on the faces of the children,” says Roberta Victor with Cross Ministries.
Volunteers spent the past week filling backpacks will supplies for Cross Ministries 22nd Annual Back to School giveaway. They were handed out Thursday to low-income families.
The line of people waiting for supplies stretched around the building, with some people waiting more than two hours to get inside.
“They’re great people for doing it they’re great people. I appreciate their business and help and stuff like that to help unfortunate families and that’s happy,” says parent Jeremy Amerison
Cross Ministries says they see a greater need for school supplies every year they offer the back to school giveaway.
